River Glow Festival – Bonfires on The Pawcatuck

Now on its sixth season, Westerly RI and Pawcatuck CT have executed one of the best festivals in New England, River Glow Festival. Donahue park is where the main event takes place,  there you can find a variety of food vendors, arts & crafts, live music, and entertainment. It’s a unique event where you can find a wide array of activities for the whole family. Additionally, the area has many great restaurants.

Around dusk, volunteers use a small skiff to fill the fire pits. Periodic horse-drawn carriage rides take visitors on a tour of the town. Entertainers dance skillfully with fire and martial artists demonstrate the utmost self-discipline. Amongst other activities, face-painting, live music and food, and craft vendors are a few additional things you can expect to find at the River Glow Festival.

Throughout the event, we were able to take aerial footage and speak with interested guests about our Phantom DJI. You can watch the 2-minute aerial video on River Glow HERE.  After River Glow ended we took a stroll through the breath-taking Wilcox park, which is conveniently located next to and affiliated with the Westerly (Wilcox) Library.

Throughout the summer The Colonial Theater hosts a variety of outdoor plays in the park. Because they have an ongoing summer theater, guests can visit when it’s convenient. Their current theater event is Shakespeare’s Hilarious Comedy, The Twelfth Night. It is a “ tale of unrequited love” – hilarious and heartbreaking. The show runs Tuesdays – Sundays from 8:00 – 10:00 PM and more information can be found on the library’s theater page, linked here.

Above all, Westerly is a wonderful area to visit because of the variety of things to do! If you can’t make it here for the festival, we hope you will still carve out some time to visit. If you do, some must-see places are Watch Hill Light, Misquamicqut Beach, The Flying Horse Carousel and Sift Bake Shop because after they are the best pastries in town!
